Starkville-51³Ō¹Ļ Symphony Association presents ā€˜Epic Movie Themes’ and ā€˜Movie Musical Magic’ this weekend

STARKVILLE, Miss.—The Starkville-Mississippi Symphony Association is holding two special concerts this weekend dedicated to soundtracks from beloved film and musical franchises.

The orchestra will perform ā€œEpic Movie Themesā€ Saturday [April 23] at 7:30 p.m. in Lee Hall’s Bettersworth Auditorium, and the association’s Community Chorus will perform ā€œMovie Musical Magicā€ Sunday [April 24] at 4 p.m. at the Greensboro Center in Starkville. Both concerts are free and open to the public.

The Saturday concert will feature a variety of theme songs from classic movies and television shows such as ā€œRaiders of the Lost Ark,ā€ ā€œDances with Wolves,ā€ ā€œStar Warsā€ and ā€œThe Fellowship of the Ring.ā€ The orchestra will be conducted by Barry E. Kopetz, professor and head of 51³Ō¹Ļ’s Department of Music.

Sunday’s performance will be dedicated to popular musicals, with songs from ā€œWickedā€ and ā€œThe Wiz,ā€ as well as selections from musicals by Rodgers and Hammerstein. The Community Chorus is directed by Peter Infanger, a Department of Music lecturer.
